“Crawl”- Chris Brown

“Everybody sees it’s you, I’m the one that lost the view
Everybody says we’re through, I hope you havn’t said it too
So where do we go from here, With all this fear in our eyes
And where can love take us now, And we’ve been so far down
We can still touch the sky
If we crawl, ’till we can walk again
And we’ll run, Until we’re strong enough to jump
And we’ll fly, Until there is no end
So let’s crawl…crawl….crawl
Back to love
Why did I change the pace, Hearts were never meant to race
Always felt the need for space, And now I can’t reach your face
So where are you standing now, Are you in the crowd of my voice
Love can’t you see my hand, Lend me one more chance
We can still have it all
So we’ll crawl, ‘till we can walk around
And we’ll run, Until we’re strong enough to jump
Then we’ll fly, Until there is no end
So let’s crawl….crawl….crawl
Back to love
Everybody sees it’s you, Well I never wanna lose that view
So we’ll crawl, ‘till we can walk again
Then we’ll run, Until we’re strong enough to jump
Then we’ll fly, Until there is no end
So let’s crawl….crawl…crawl
So we’ll crawl, ‘till we can walk again
Then we’ll run, Until we’re strong enough to jump
Then we’ll fly, Until there is no end
So let’s crawl….crawl…crawl
Back to love….”

“Edge of Desire”- John Mayer, Battle Studies
“Young and full of running
Tell me where’s that taking me?
Just a great figure 8 or a tiny infinity
Love is really nothing
But a dream that keeps waking me
For all of my trying
You still end up dying
How can it be?
Don’t say a word, just come over and lie here with me
‘Cause I’m just about to set fire to everything I see
I want you so bad I’ll go back on the things I believe
There I just said it, I’m scared you’ll forget about me
So young and full of running, all the way to the edge of desire
Steady my breathing, silently screaming,
“I have to have you now”
Wired and I’m tired
Think I’ll sleep in my clothes on the floor
Maybe this mattress will spin on its axis and find me on yours
Don’t say a word just come over and lie here with me
‘Cause I’m just about to set fire to everything I see
I want you so bad I’ll go back on the things I believe
There I just said it, I’m scared you’ll forget about me
Don’t say a word just come over and lie here with me
‘Cause I’m just about to set fire to everything I see
I want you so bad I’ll go back on the things I believe
There I just said it, I’m scared you’ll forget about me”

Muse- "The Resistance" (to un-original music)

I was beyond thrilled when the new Muse album “The Resistance” LP showed up in my iTunes queue this morning. I pre-ordered the album about 2 weeks ago, and like most Muse fans I haven’t been able to sit still waiting for it’s release. This time around not only did Muse not fail to disappoint, but I feel like I can confidently say this is the band’s most exceptional album out of their previous 4. The wide range of styles, melodies, instruments, and sounds make this album beyond anything that has been released in the past few years. The have that classic, glam rock, techno, synth Muse sound in some sounds; then they bring in an orchestra and blow the limitations of a genre with songs like the 3 part orchestral symphony Exogenesis that composes the latter part of the album. They also draw style inspiration from other classic bands. There are times in the album when they have the sound of a Queen classic, U2, Depeche Mode, and Led Zeppelin. A major part of my love for this album is iTunes handiwork in the beautiful new LPs that they are starting to give as options to buy for new, major albums. This is my first digital LP, and after combing through it- it certainly won’t be my last.

The experience is immersive with behind the scenes videos and music videos, liner notes, artwork and lyrics, and band photos. For a music lover the iTunes LP is like heaven.

Bands like Muse prove that there is still creativity and original inspiration out there being made with exceptional quality. This type of deep, meaningful, thought provoking music that can be inspired from the romance in George Orwell novels, yet also sound so catchy and melodic that it appeals to the masses; is the exact thing that the music industry needs right now. Thank you Muse for the creativity and effort you put into your music. This album was worth every penny. And thank you iTunes for making such a beautiful LP.

Daughtry's "Leave This Town"
Daughtry finally released their second album earlier this week titled, “Leave This Town”. It’s been 3 years since the band’s debut self-titled album.

I’m not gonna lie I had super-high hopes for this album when I heard about it several months ago. I absolutely loved the first album. With the huge time span between the two albums I figured that time would bring even more quality of songs, so my anticipation grew and grew up until the release of the debut single “No Suprise” a couple months ago. I liked the song and it was a classic, predictable pop/rock ballad that I had come to expect every now and then from Daughtry. I usually like artists and bands that re-invent themselves and that don’t stay too predictable in the structure of their songs (John Mayer, Kings of Leon, Coldplay, etc)… but Daughtry was a band that I had come to accept (even if they were predictable) because of their catchy hooks, melodies, and lyrics that always seemed to make keep their songs on repeat on my iPod.
So when I gave the album a listen for the first time this past Tuesday, I was shocked. Daughtry had definitely tried to re-invent itself.. but I wasn’t sure I liked it. First of all, I was expecting at least a couple more songs like “No Suprise”… but it was the only one of it’s kind. I liked the hard rock stuff that Daughtry tried to tap into in their first album (ala “What I Want”.. etc).. but the harder, darker edge that Daughtry seems to be trying to push in the majority of this album is just too… predictable. Don’t get me wrong it sounds good… but the amazingly catchy melodies and hooks don’t really appear in this new album like they did in the last. A Daughtry song is generally easy to predict- verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus, tag.. that’s usually how a Daughtry song goes, and that’s fine, but it would be nice if it was changed up a little bit in this album. The harder rock stuff is decent but not amazing, the only real thing to keep this album on par is the fewer rock ballads on the album, which is where I think Daughtry has always been in it’s element. Tracks like, “Life After You”, September”, and “Learn My Lesson” are my personal favorite songs on the album, but their still not even THAT amazing. There is not one song on “Leave This Town” that I liked so much that I wanted to instantly hear it again the first time I heard it. I remember setting the first album on repeat for days I loved it so much.
So my final thoughts on Daughtry’s “Leave This Town”.. good.. maaybe on the same level as the first album, but with how long it took to be released and the overall quality- a disappointment.
I still love you though Daughtry so don’t take another 3 years until the next album is released please.
